Meet George Edwards, CPA

George Edwards, CPA is a U.S. Army veteran and summa cum laude graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. A Certified Public Accountant, he retired from ExxonMobil Corporation in January 2020 after a 39-year career. He currently serves as a deacon at Second Baptist Church in Katy, Texas.

In 1995, George was elected to the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees, where he served as Vice President. During his tenure, he called for the decisive vote that ended year-round school in Cy-Fair ISD—ensuring a more stable and consistent academic calendar for students and families.

From 1999 to 2010, George served on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, where he was also a member of the Commission for Lawyer Discipline, Chair of the Law-Focused Education Committee, and a Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation, later serving as Chair of its Investment Committee.

A proven leader beyond education, George chaired Leadership Houston Class XXI and was honored with the prestigious Patrice Johnson Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2003. While at ExxonMobil, he received the Corporate Leadership Award from the Minerals Management Service for upholding the highest standards in Federal and Indian oil and gas royalty reporting.

George is a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Capital Credit Union and continues to serve as chair of its Asset Liability Committee. He is also a Trustee on the Board of the Neuhaus Education Center, a nonprofit dedicated to improving reading skills for children, and was elected to the Towne Lake Homeowners Association Board of Directors in June 2022.

George and his wife, DeBra, are the proud parents of three accomplished sons. The joys of their lives are their beloved granddaughters.
